Frequently Asked Questions (Without the Frequently)

What is the purpose of this blog?
This blog was created as an avenue or arena to generate discussion and/or dialogue about God and religious beliefs as a whole.  These discussions, of course, will range from simple or elementary principles to the more meaty/weightier aspects of the Faith and theology.  Everyone will fit in somewhere because, after all, to some extent and in some sense, every single person is a theologian (more on this later).  And although my thoughts will be given from a Christian perspective (and always with the intention of glorying and exalting the Lord Jesus Christ), I welcome interaction with those members of society engaged in other faiths and religious practices. We can get it in!  Additionally, in developing this blog, my intention is to post my own personal reflections, affections and/or pertinent topics that pertain, not only to understanding and knowledge of the Bible (i.e., what thus says the Lord; by the way this is an absolute must), but also to the application (i.e., the living out) of the biblical text in modern times (i.e., current events, commonly considered and hopefully popular/relevant topics; How does this apply to today?). I submit all that I write to the Lordship of Jesus Christ ( more accurately, Yeshua) and sincerely pray that He is gloried in all that this blog will become.

So why did you create this blog? What are your motivations?
Honestly, ever since my matriculation into undergrad, I have a deep longing for getting to know more about God and more importantly, getting to know God.  Moreover, with the exception of a few breaks, I have been consistently pursuing various venues and opportunities (personal research, Bible Grad School, teaching, etc...) to help facilitate this happening.  Having recently graduated from Bible School with a masters, I needed a new avenue to put  my theological (and I would like think God-fearing) mind to work by putting Christ on display.  I consider myself a student of theology (which is why the blog is titled 'Theologue' - meaning for me a learner, not an expert of theology).  This is intended to convey humility in that I am merely a persistent learner of theology and can never get "everything" right (that is 'until that day'), but the goal is to get as close as I can and its one that I consistently strive toward.  Therefore, this is a perfect medium for me to keep my theological engine running while I await and strive for opportunities to become more active in ministry.

Additionally, and chiefly, my aim in creating this blogspot is to expose, or better yet, reveal my thoughts, beliefs and convictions concerning the gospel to the internet (mass audience) as as way to produce interaction with other believers (and members of society) as a way to grow in the Faith and prepare more for ministry (where I believe my future lies). So lets interact, discuss and DIALOGUE.

Why is this blog called Double-Edged-Theology (or Theologue)?  Is your theology really Double-Edged?

Great Question. One that definitely needs unpacking. So let me unpack thusly...

The reason why I called this blogspot Double-Edged Theologue or (Double-Edged Theology) is simply because I go by the moniker Double-Edge and it’s a theological blog. Now I am not trying to get super spiritual here, one of my rap/music friends simply nicknamed me Double-Edge (most ppl probably don't even know that seeing how I do not rap that much) and I been rolling with it ever since (if it makes anyone feel any better, Brandon in old English has been known to mean sword, lol).

More importantly, the significance of the Double-Edge reference is not merely my nickname, but rather is representative of (that is pointing to) the Holy Scriptures. It is a reference to God's Divine Word. In Scripture, the word of God is likened to a double-edge sword (actually its described as sharper than one in Hebrews 4:12) that cuts so sharply and penetrate deeply, that it is able to divide (and distinguish) the soul and the spirit (which are near synonymous in most biblical usage – so this is saying alot), parts of us that are as close together as the joint and the marrow, and is able to expose/judge our attitudes, thoughts, motivations, etc... It (the sword aka the Word of God) is able to penetrate perfectly the spiritual, physical and mental aspects of a person and is therefore sufficient in all aspects of our life and person - for all life and godliness. It covers it all. This appears to me to be the meaning of biblical usage of the term double-edged (at least in this passage), but many today see this term as meaning ‘something that is able to cut both ways, or able to be taken in two ways.’ This is undoubted true if one sees the Word of God as both being able to convict of sin and lead to salvation. But, the term’s usage in the Bible seems to point more toward the aforementioned – the Word’s ability to cut sharply or deeply. However, I hope this blog is able to do both, cut people deeply with the conviction of sin and the illuminate them to the grace of salvation.

I was simply nicknamed double-edge because I had/have a perceived knowledge of the Scriptures and a dedication to displaying and delivering the Word Of God as authentically as possible (I hope this is true anyway). I have a devotion to the Scriptures. So, the blog is titled this way because I want it to have a dedication to God's Truth, displaying Him as the Scriptures do, and applying the Scriptures as intended. It is dedicated to biblical theology - that is to theology that is derived and given by God's Divine Word. This blog is my way of ‘keeping the blade sharp’ in my usage and interpretation of the Bible – which is every Christian’s weapon.
